When Lubov Azria sends over a dress from her Fall 2012 collection for you to wear to an intimate dinner party hosted by BCBGMAXAZRIA, you have to pull out all the stops.

Along with doing my hair - shocking, I know - I set aside some “me time”  to apply sparkly Sally Hansen Nail Strips that added the perfect touch of glittery punk glamour  - hello oxymoron - to my simple silhouette. What’s a stylish dinner party without a good manicure? Am I right!?

As for the dress, I fell in love with it’s sheer color blocking glory when it came billowing down the runway back in February. The top is actually 100% sheer, which on a model with no chest looks great, but on me?…not so much. After toying with a few different bras, I opted for a body hugging long sleeve black shirt that, thankfully, looked like it was part of the dress. Given more time I think I would have gotten away with a nude bandini or bandeau.

The dinner was held at Freeman’s Restaurant - one of my favorites in the city - and the meal itself did not disappoint. It was wonderful to be sitting in a room full of fellow editors and bloggers and Mrs. Azria herself who did a phenomenal job as hostess. I wish we could have a dinner party like this every week!

Crazy Cat Lady

February 20, 2012

I have a real weakness for cat-printed clothing. Ok, fine. I have a real weakness for cats; but since this is a fashion blog, let’s stick to how cats may or may not have replaced the polka dot.

I’d like to think that it all began when Miu Miu sent out a line-up of sassy cat-printed pieces for its Spring 2010 collection* but I have a feeling it started well before then. Either way, I’ve picked up my fair share of pieces that would meow if they could, but nearly lost 9 lives when I saw the Glamour x Opening Ceremony Cat Embroidered Sweater on some of my favorite bloggers and editors during Fashion Week.

There was no question that this little sweater would soon make it’s way into my closet — though I did have some trouble deciding between the black and the white. I ultimately chose white because it reminds me of Kitten Marie from the Aristocats, but don’t be surprised if you find the black one sneaking it’s way into an outfit post in the near future…

*Note: If anyone is willing to part with any piece of this collection — namely the cat-print collar — I will gladly rip take it off your neck hands.

A Time to Share

December 21, 2010

I’ve never been one to make New Year’s resolutions; truth be told I often either forget about them or break them within a week. That being said, I have always enjoyed the process of looking back on the previous year and making a note of all that I am grateful for as well as everything that’s made me happy and inspired me to continue doing the things that I love. So, in the first edition of my own personal “Best of 2010″ I thought I’d share the 10 blogs that have inspired me on a day-to-day basis to continue working, writing, and creating the things that bring me the most joy and happiness in my life. From incredible fashionistas and travel blogs to outstanding D.I.Y. ideas, here are my ten favorite blogs of 2010.

1. Louise Ebel of Pandora

2. Erica & Lauren of Honestly…WTF

3. Keiko of Keiko Lynn

4. Ryan & Dina of Vagabond Quest

5. Jovelle Hoverson of The Purl Bee

6. Kelly Framel of The Glamourai

7. Mara Hoffman

8. Sabrina of After Drk

9. Tamu of All the Pretty Birds

10. Lou & Sarah of Birds of a Feather

What are your favorite blogs of 2010?

Printed Pants

As attracted as I am to prints, I’m a little bit skeptical about patterned pants. While they look chic and different on the hanger, I often find that they resemble pajama bottoms as opposed to actual pants. Perhaps it’s because the material is usually a bit too flouncy or that at times the prints look exactly like a pair of silky pj bottoms I had back in 1995, but something about these pants give me a case of the zzz’s.

However, like most trends, there’s a right way and a wrong way to creating and wearing them. Walking outside in a pair of plaid flannel pants may be a bit too Kevin McAllister, but a delicate pair of bohemian print silk harem pants is about as boho-chic as you can get. Below I’ve compiled some of my favorite printed-pants looks for you to draw some inspiration from.
