Hello from the depths of Fashion Week! I’m going to have to make the writing portion of this post short and sweet since I need to be up in 5 hours and am working on a deadline, but I couldn’t not share some photos from the past few days! So far my favorite collections have been Rag & Bone, Prabal Gurung, Helmut Lang, Suno, and Jill Stuart. No surprise there seeing as how they’re all some of my favorite designers.

As for my sanity? Things have been going pretty smoothly aside from the fact that the memory card closure to my Canon snapped off and I thus cannot use it. Other than that it’s been a whirlwind of fun and I can’t wait for the next few days of fashion adventure! Be sure to follow me on twitter, instagram, and tumblr for of the minute updates.

I’ll be back tomorrow; until then, check out these photos from the first few days of NYFW (*note: I wasn’t able to snag photos at every show, but these are some of the highlights).

It currently feels like the start of Spring in New York, which of course gives me anxiety because you just know there’s going to be a giant snowstorm in the middle of Fashion Week, but I have my fingers and toesies and eyeballs crossed that the crisp, sunny weather sticks like the snow should be doing right about now.

Though I’ve been staring longingly out the window at the perfect weather while being chained to my desk with Fashion Week prep, this week has been surprisingly manageable (calm before the snow storm?). This weekend however, is going to be one giant whirlwind as I finalize schedules, attend a few fittings, start my apartment search (wh0 slipped me those crazy pills, honestly?), and of course, the Super Bowl, otherwise known as nachos fest. I’m hoping to get a bit of rest in there somewhere because there’s no need to get bags under my eyes before Fashion Week, since it’s pretty good at doing that for me by day 3. God, I love Fashion Week season!

{ My coffee table has a new bff }

Ok, that’s it. I need to talk to Mr. 2012. These weeks are lasting way too long! Anyone else feel like Tuesday was a Friday? Hate that.

Good thing I’ve got all kinds of exciting shtuff happening this weekend. My shopping/styling sessions with Mastercard’s Priceless NY members (remember when I told you about it?) commences tomorrow morning, followed by watching the 49ers beat the Saints with both of my brothers (what a rarity!), followed by din din with my whole fam-damily! Lucky me!

In other news, I’ve got lots of exciting goodies to share with you, some of which are featured in this post and others that you’ll just have to keep checking back for! You can also keep up with me on instagram (@runwayhippie) 0r my webstagram for you non iphone holders cause lemme tell you somethin’, I post a lot of sneaky peekies on there!

Have a fan-tab-u-lous weekend! Miss you already!

I’ve never been one for suits; in the past I’ve found them boring, uncomfortable, and waaaay too “corporate” for my taste, but oh how the times have changed. As I’ve start thinking about what I want to buy/wear for Fashion Week (seriously? it’s already here!?) I did what I’ve always done and poked my nose into the ever-s0-giant folder on my computer filled with outfit and style inspiration. Among a series of images of worn-in jeans and excessive layering, I couldn’t help but notice the rainbow collection of suits I’d saved.

I admit that as I’ve gotten older I’ve become increasingly more interested in sleek, elegant black suits and have been on a 007 mission for a tailored white suit (suggestions welcome!) all summer long. And now it seems that just like I stumbled upon my insect jewelry collection which I shared in yesterday’s post (see here), I apparently am really into the monochromatic colorful suit look as well!

Guess I’ll have to add them to my 007 shopping mission as well!

Ready, Set…GO!

Today is New York Fashion Week’s official kick off and I’m both extremely excited and admittedly, a little nervous! Although I’ve worked fashion week several times before, this season my schedule is much busier and I’m sure I’m not alone when I express my apprehension about it being held in Lincoln Center this year. I had finally figured out the ins and outs of Bryant Park (i.e. where to grab a quick bite, the best place for coffee, and the easiest way to get through the crowds) and I could literally walk two feet out the front door of my apartment, hop on the subway, and arrive two feet from the entrance at Bryant Park.  Talk about convenience. But enough with this pessimism. It’s fashion week and it’s time to get amped!

While I’ve already gone through the check list that I made last season, I’ve made a few necessary additions to the list to ensure that I have as stress free a week as possible.

1. Making a Model “Face Book” - Let’s be honest, new faces pop-up in the modeling industry on what seems like a daily basis. Sure, you have your superstar names like Lily Donaldson, Chanel Iman and Alessandra Ambrosio, but what about all those other girls that are making their debut on the NYFW runways? Since I’m working with Modelinia again this season, I’ve decided that the best way to memorize all these new names and faces is to make a book featuring their pictures, names and a short bio - aka a Model Face Book.

2. Stocking the Kitchen - I’m not sure what I was thinking last season, but for some reason I thought I’d have time to sit down and eat a meal all throughout fashion week. Boy, was I wrong. I was basically running from show to show shoveling a sandwich down my throat, praying that little dribbles of mustard or lettuce wouldn’t fall on my outfit. But that won’t be happening this time, no sir! I’ve stocked my kitchen with easy snacks that I can throw in my bag and eat without needing a napkin, or let’s face it…a bib. Protein bars, string cheese, carrots, and the like will be my fashion week diet. But rest assured I’ll definitely be taking myself out to a scrumptious meal after the whole thing is over.

3. The Giant Bag - I already carry a sufficient amount of stuff in my bag on a daily basis, but when I’m running around NYC all day from show to show there are a few more necessary items that I need throughout the day. As much as I’d like to carry a small bag or clutch around, there’s no way in hell I’d be able to survive an entire day of fashion shows with just my wallet, cellphone and keys.  Along with the aforementioned items, I carry an extra pair of shoes, my camera(s), notebook, snacks, water, and gift bag treats, so obviously the bigger the bag the better.

I will try and post on Runway Hippie as frequently as possible throughout fashion week but I may miss a few days here and there. But I promise to be back with lots of stories and pictures of all my experiences! And be sure to check out my updates on Modelinia!

And now, off to the shows!
