This past weekend I watched a documentary on the Amazon and have been kind of obsessed ever since. It’s always been a place I wanted to go but I’d never go unless I had some kind of a human bubble to travel around in - insects that crawl under your skin and giant snakes falling from trees? No thank you!

However, I had so much fun creating my dinosaur adventures last week (see here) that I figured I’d spend a grumpy Monday evening playing around with photos of the Amazon while simultaneously incorporating my ferny green Zara pants that have been sitting in my closet staring at me for a few months now. I did shriek and pull my feet up onto my chair a few times while browsing for images (snakes are seriously my biggest fear) but I loved looking at all the colorful toucans and odd insects that look as if Dr. Seuss made them up.

I’m convinced I was a biologist in another life…or an archaeologist…or singer from the 1920s…or someone from a Jane Austen novel…or………..oy.

I was all set to go out to brunch Sunday morning with my friend Brittany, cute outfit planned and all, but when I woke up and saw the torrential downpour happening outside my window we both decided, SCREW THAT…rain check!

Before I got rid of cable, my rainy days consisted of me, blobbed out on the couch, watching a Mythbusters marathon or anything on Bravo (judge away…). But now that TV isn’t really an option, my rainy days are spent in a much more productive manner. Yesterday I ended up cleaning my entire apartment like a crazy person, painted my nails, used a face mask, caught up on a bunch of reading, did some work, gave Finn a bath, organized my shoes, and even had time to bake some cookies!

How do you spend your rainy days??

Every once in awhile people irritate me. I know that makes me sound like a big ol’ poo head but sometimes I just have those days when I need some space from humankind. Yesterday was one of those days; I got trampled on my way to the subway (which also took over an hour to come and I was late to a meeting), my neighbors were blasting crappy music for the better half of the day, and when I went to go take pictures someone was in the spot I had in mind. Ugh!

So, I figured why not take a break from boring humans and hang out with some dinos!? They may look mean, but that’s just because they’re frustrated and misunderstood. For example, the tyrannosaurus in the above picture isn’t about to bite my head off, he’s just complaining to me about how his arms are too short. Rough life! And the pterodactyl below is only squawking at me about plans for Friday night. Dinosaurs. They’re just like us!

Ok, ok…I know this is a bit ridiculous but truth be told I needed something to get my mind off of yesterday’s caca. And let me tell you, it worked. Amazing what a little imagination wandering (and photoshop fun) can do for the soul.

This heat wave needs to come to an end. I pretty much want to kill myself anytime I step outside of an air conditioned building and yet, for the past two days it seems like all I’ve done is bounce around the city from meeting to meeting in this suffocating oven of a city. Certainly makes me miss my summers in San Francisco where the fog is a plenty and pants are always an option.

This outfit is probably one of the more lightweight looks I’ve ever put on. The shirt is so thin it’s basically see-through, the skirt is flowy and flouncy, and the blazer (worn infrequently during the day) is an airy linen-like fabric that acts as a light layer when or if needed.

I admit it’s not easy getting dressed in this heat, but lightweight pieces have become my closest friends and I’m sure I’ll miss them when all I’m wearing are heavy sweaters and puffy coats. Ah, the life of dressing seasonally.

If you follow me on twitter (find me here!) then you may have noticed a large amount of tweets and photos about the little fishing extravaganza my family and I went on this past weekend. I’m nowhere close to being an advanced fisher(wo)man and have never fished in the ocean before but regardless of my lack of experience, I was excited to take on the big blue.

We boarded a fishing boat, got the low down on how to use the rods, and began our adventure hoping to catch some fish worthy of dinner. I only managed to catch one striped sea bass (my brothers caught at least a dozen - I’m convinced the fish knew I felt bad about killing them) but I will say that the thrill of feeling that tug on your rod and reeling in a giant scaley fish is pretty fantastic.

I’d love to practice fishing some more, but the thought of fishing in the Hudson or East River makes me want to barf…guess I’ll just have to wait until next summer!

{ OH! Right! Hold on tight and reel! }

{ Tharrrr she isarrr! }
