Priceless Excursions

January 18, 2012

As I mentioned before, I’ve teamed up with Glamour and MasterCard to take Mastercard cardholders on a shopping excursion throughout Soho. This past weekend was the official kickoff and it did not disappoint! Starting at Ground Support, a Soho coffee shop which boasts some seriously good coffee and homemade peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that I can’t stop craving, I met my first few shoppers for a brief style consultation before we hit the frosty pavements to get our shop on. With a total of three stores on our itinerary - Flying A, Patina, and AvaMaria, all of which I will highlight in the next couple of days - my shoppers and I turned into serious scavengers as we scoured the racks trying on colorful trousers, vintage statement jewelry, and discounted designer shoes that make my toes wiggle with delight.

I’ll be doing this for the next few weekends and can’t wait to meet my next set of shoppers!

Is this something you guys would be interested in? I feel like I should do it again once it’s warmer…

Shopping Blackout

Meet my new Dries Van Noten babies. Orange lucite heel? Check! Multi-textured? Check! Porn for my feet? Check!

I saw these suckers on sale at Barneys this past weekend and was P.O.’d because they weren’t in my size. So, after trying on a few pairs of Miu Mius, Pradas and Wangs, I made one last lap around the sale section and shazam! there they were, the Dries Van Notens I’ve been goo goo gah gah for for months! The next few minutes are a bit of a blur as I darted toward the closest seat like a hungry lion and fastened the shoes of my dreams to my feet. Without so much as a blink of the eye, I whipped out my credit card and next thing I knew I was walking outside clutching my Barneys bag like a football.

Blacking out because of complete and utter excitement is truly the best.

Most people complain about hand-me-downs. “Waah all I ever wore were my sisters hand-me-down dresses” “waaaaah, my parents always dressed me in my brother’s old jeans” “wah wah waaaaah”. What a bunch of cry babies.

Having grown up with two older brothers, I got some of the coolest hand-me-downs ever! T-shirts with dinosaurs and planets on them, little boy blazers, neon green sweatpants…ok, well maybe the sweatpants are a bad example. Either way, I loved my brothers hand-me-downs, in fact I’d still like them to pass along some stuff to me, like this well worn Rolling Stones Tour tee I’ve been coveting for years! decades! centuries! You get the picture.

Now, you’re probably assuming that I’m wearing a bunch of hand-me-downs in this outfit post. I’m not. However!, I am wearing boys clothing which is close enough for me. I bought this button down in the little boys section of Gap Kids and I got my shorts from the mens section of Buffalo Exchange and then cut them to make them a little more feminine. Baggy, knee-length denim shorts just aren’t my thing….

All in all, sometimes it’s fun to shop on the other side of the wall.
