Brooklyn Flea

One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is browse flea markets. Between going through racks and racks of well-loved grandpa sweaters and gaudy jewelry to munching on neighborhood pastries while perusing old books and magazines, it sometimes feels as though I could spend my entire day wandering around the market.

This Saturday I woke up extremely early and decided it was high-time I head over to Brooklyn Flea to see what kinds of trinkets and treasures they had in store.

I’m used to giant flea markets in the middle of parking lots, so you can imagine that walking into the landmark of the former Williamsburg Savings Bank was a beautiful and unexpected surprise.

One of the hardest things for me to do at a flea market is resist the urge to buy practically everything I see. I normally do a full lap before committing to anything. My policy is, if it’s not there when you make lap two then it wasn’t meant to be.

Brooklyn Flea happens to be three stories, so naturally, my first mission was to tackle the main floor.

After taking my time at practically every vendor (and getting yelled at by a few for taking photographs), I made my second lap and wound up only buying this bright orange and gold polka dot tie.

After finishing my rounds on the main floor, I headed towards the staircase to check out the basement and top floor. However, as I was walking out, my nose and taste buds pulled me over toward the pastries to indulge in some deliciously light and fluffy madeleine’s.

The top floor and basement were significantly smaller than the main floor, which was definitely less intimidating.

After walking around these two floors, I wound up only buying a foxtail which was really just a replacement to the one that I lost a few months ago. So while it may not have been a successful trip for my closet/apartment, it was a nice break for my wallet. However, I’m sure that I will return to Brooklyn Flea sooner rather than later and will be much more indulgent on my purchases.
